Explore our MEP Design capability

Energy Metering and Monitoring: Measuring Before Managing

How to meter a commercial building usefully — what to sub-meter, why a single incoming meter tells you nothing, and turning data into reduced consumption.

Server Room and Data Centre MEP: Cooling, Power and Resilience

How a server room's services are designed — heat load, dedicated cooling, redundancy, power backup, fire suppression and the monitoring that makes it safe.

Building Management Systems: What a BMS Should Actually Deliver

What a BMS monitors and controls, why most deliver less than promised, the difference between monitoring and control, and what to specify to get value.

HVAC Systems Design: Load, Distribution, Fresh Air and Control

How a commercial HVAC system is designed — load calculation, system selection, air distribution, fresh air provision and controls — and what gets missed.

Power Backup: Sizing DG and UPS Around an Essential Load

How backup power is designed for a commercial building — defining the essential load, sizing DG and UPS, segregating circuits, and the siting constraints.

Electrical Works — HT/LT Panels, Distribution and Wiring

HT and LT panels, power distribution, wiring, earthing and small power for commercial and industrial buildings — installed, tested and handed over.

Fire Detection & Alarm Systems

Addressable fire alarm, smoke and heat detection, manual call points and PA integration for offices, hospitals and industrial buildings.

Firefighting Systems — Hydrants, Sprinklers and Pump Rooms

Fire hydrant, wet riser, sprinkler and pump room installation for commercial and industrial buildings, with a dedicated 35-member firefighting team.

Healthcare MEP — Hospitals, Clinics and Diagnostic Centres

MEP for hospitals and clinics — OT, ICU, emergency, diagnostics and patient rooms — where air, power and water failures carry clinical consequences.

Low Voltage & ELV Systems — CCTV, Access Control, PA

CCTV, access control, public address, and building management interfaces for offices, hospitals and industrial sites — installed and integrated.

Networking & Structured Cabling

Structured cabling, network racks, data outlets and containment for offices — designed around the desk layout and certified on handover.

Plumbing & Drainage

Water supply, drainage, sanitary fixtures and pumping for commercial, industrial and hospitality buildings — installed and pressure tested.

MEP Design: common questions

MEP stands for mechanical, electrical and plumbing: the building services that make a space usable. In practice it covers power distribution, lighting, plumbing and drainage, firefighting and fire detection, and often low-voltage systems such as data cabling and access control. Air conditioning is sometimes grouped under MEP and sometimes treated as a separate HVAC package.

Because several services share the same ceiling void and must be installed in order. Without a coordinated drawing that resolves where each duct, pipe and cable tray sits, clashes are found on site and work is removed and redone. Coordination drawings for the execution teams are one of our MEP deliverables for exactly this reason.

A load calculation works out how much electrical capacity a space actually needs from its lighting, equipment, air conditioning and other connected loads. It sizes cables, distribution boards and backup power correctly, and it shows early whether the building's existing supply is enough. Estimating from a rule of thumb instead is how installations end up undersized or needlessly expensive.

Yes, significantly. Every enclosed room needs its own lighting circuits and controls, changes where sprinklers and detectors sit, and affects power and data positions. A layout with many small rooms is a larger MEP job than the same floor left open, which is why the layout should be settled before MEP design is finalised.

Testing confirms each piece of equipment works; commissioning confirms the whole system performs as designed once everything is connected. It covers electrical tests, checking that controls behave as intended, and the interfaces between systems such as the fire alarm and air handling. Commissioning records with measured results should be part of the handover documentation.
