Where projects go wrong
- Treating a hospital like a large office. The redundancy and zoning requirements are fundamentally different.
- Critical areas without continuity of supply. Power and air to OT and ICU must survive a single failure.
- Pressure relationships between zones not maintained. Air moving the wrong way between clean and dirty areas defeats infection control.
- Live-facility work without infection-control barriers. Construction dust in a clinical area is a patient-safety issue.
- Equipment requirements confirmed late. Imaging and theatre equipment bring specific power, cooling and structural needs that must be designed in.
