Cast-In Channel Anchors for Facade Brackets

What it is
A steel channel section cast into the concrete slab edge or column before the pour, with a slot that accepts a special bolt head. Facade brackets bolt to it and slide along it for adjustment.

Why it suits facades
A curtain wall or cladding bracket must land within a few millimetres of where the drawing says, on a concrete frame that was built to construction tolerances. Those two facts fight each other.
Cast-in channels resolve it: the bracket slides horizontally to wherever it is actually needed, and the load path into the concrete is fixed and tested rather than discovered by drilling.
They also remove drilling noise, dust and the risk of cutting reinforcement on an occupied or finished structure.
The sequencing requirement
This is the practical catch. The channel is set before concrete is poured, which means the facade design must be far enough advanced at structure stage to know where brackets go. On projects where the facade package is procured late, the information does not exist in time and the team falls back to post-drilled anchors.
Where projects go wrong
- Facade design not advanced enough at pour stage, so channels are guessed or omitted.
- Channels displaced during pouring, which is why they need fixing properly to formwork and surveying afterwards.
- Non-system bolts used. The channel's capacity depends on the matched bolt head; ordinary bolts do not engage correctly.
- Filler strip not removed, leaving the channel full of concrete.
- Longitudinal load ignored on a plain channel that cannot take it.
