What it is

Seamless copper tube used for refrigerant lines, chilled water and condensate. In refrigeration it must be ACR grade — cleaned, dried and capped at manufacture.

Non-negotiables on refrigerant work

  1. ACR grade tube only, kept capped until the moment of use
  2. Nitrogen purge during brazing, every joint, without exception
  3. Pressure test and deep vacuum before charging
  4. Insulation continuous, glued at joints, thickness calculated for local dew point
  5. Pipe supported without crushing the insulation at hangers

Where projects go wrong

  • Plumbing copper used for refrigerant. Contamination, then compressor failure.
  • Brazing without nitrogen, producing internal scale.
  • Tube left uncapped on site, taking in humid air and dust.
  • Insulation taped rather than glued, opening at the joints and sweating.
  • Under-thickness insulation, causing condensation drips into ceilings.
