PEB Design & Engineering

PEB design and engineering fixes a pre-engineered building's tapered steel frame, bracing, purlins, girts and connections before fabrication, working to IS 800 and IS 875. Because the frame cannot change once members are fabricated, clear span, crane loads, site wind and seismic loading and any future extension have to be settled at design stage.

What we deliver

Design and engineering for pre-engineered buildings — load assessment, frame design, bracing, secondary members, connections and fabrication drawings — as the first stage of a PEB delivered from design to erection.

A pre-engineered building is decided almost entirely on the drawing board. Once members are fabricated, the frame is fixed. That makes the design stage the cheapest place to get clear span, crane capacity, future extension and cladding right.

Scope of works

StageWhat we deliver
RequirementDimensions, clear height, use, cranes, mezzanines
Load assessmentDead, imposed, wind and seismic loads per IS codes
Frame designPrimary frames with tapered members, spacing, bracing
Secondary membersPurlins, girts, sag rods, eave struts
ConnectionsBolted moment and shear connections, base plates
Foundation loadsReactions issued for civil foundation design
DrawingsGeneral arrangement, anchor bolt plan, fabrication details

What drives the design

Clear span and eave height · bay spacing · crane type and capacity · mezzanine and roof-mounted equipment loads · wind and seismic loading for the site · roof slope and cladding type · future extension provision.

Where projects go wrong

  • Crane loads confirmed late. They change the frame, the columns and the foundations. Adding them after design is a redesign.
  • Foundation design done separately from the frame. Anchor bolts that do not match the base plates stop erection on day one.
  • No provision for extension. Cheap at design stage, expensive afterwards.
  • Roof-mounted equipment ignored. Solar arrays, HVAC units and water tanks add loads the frame must carry.
  • Site loads copied from another project. Wind and seismic loading depend on the location and have to be established for each site.

Why Hagerstone

PEB delivered from design to erection within the same organisation that does the civil foundations, the MEP and the interiors, so frame reactions, anchor bolt plans and service openings are coordinated internally.

15 welders and 15 fitters in-house, with welding, gas cutting and lifting equipment owned, under ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 and 79+ quality checkpoints.

Frequently asked

In a PEB the frame is designed as a system and its members are tapered — built-up sections that are deeper where bending is highest and shallower where it is not — so steel goes only where the load needs it. Conventional steel uses standard rolled sections throughout. The result is usually a lighter frame, faster fabrication and quicker erection, which is why PEB dominates warehouses and factories.

Building dimensions and clear height, the intended use, any crane loads and their capacity, mezzanines, the roof and wall cladding specification, and the site location — which sets the wind and seismic loading under IS 875 Part 3 and IS 1893. Crane loads in particular change the frame substantially and have to be known at the start, not added later.

Yes, and planning for it is inexpensive if done at design stage. An end wall designed as a future extension point, with the frame and foundations sized accordingly, lets the building grow by adding bays. Retrofitting that capacity into a frame designed without it is far more expensive.
