Demountable partitions are prefabricated wall systems — solid, glazed or mixed panels on a proprietary frame — designed to be taken down and reinstalled elsewhere rather than demolished. They trade a higher initial cost for the ability to reconfigure an office with little waste.

Common mistakes
- Choosing it for a layout that never changes. The premium is not recovered.
- Poor sealing at the head. Sound travels through the plenum.
- Crossing fire compartment lines with a system not rated for it.

When layouts will genuinely change — growing teams, short leases, project-based work or floors reconfigured every few years. On a stable long-term layout, drywall is usually cheaper.
Good systems can perform well, but acoustic performance depends on the specification and especially on sealing at the ceiling and floor. Rooms needing confidentiality must be detailed carefully either way.
