Concrete Curing: Why the Days After the Pour Matter
Curing is keeping freshly placed concrete moist and at a suitable temperature long enough for the cement to hydrate and gain strength. Concrete that dries out early stops hydrating, and ends up weaker, more permeable and more prone to cracking than its mix design intended.

Why it matters
A concrete's strength is only partly set by its mix. The rest comes from what happens in the following days. In Indian heat and dry winds, surfaces can lose water within hours, and concrete that dries out early never reaches the strength its cube results promised on paper.

Common mistakes
- Stopping too early. A few days of wetting is not the specified period.
- Curing only the top surface. Vertical faces dry fastest and are often neglected.
- Removing formwork too soon. Exposes young concrete before it has strength.
